CHAPTER THREE (by Hugo Oliveira)
I noticed that on my last post I didn’t talk about any portuguese project. The fact is that I don’t even remember if i should write only about portuguese subjects. Having or not that obligation, I’m wondering why did I notice that. I find one simple explanation - the reason is because I’m portuguese. Portuguese can live on the other side of the planet, surviving in the most inhospitable place but still missing Portugal above all. We can live amongst foreigners in a beautiful garden but in the end, there will always be this calling for the caos and the love of our friends and family – but with a contradiction, it does not feel pride about this calling. We always think twice before saying wich are our origins is not? Nowadays I’m really proud in being portuguese – and I believe we can do it better; just don’t give us more money than we need – because what we really like is to dream; therefore it is that we delay as much time to choose a besiege for an airport. Well let’s move on – maybe this is only a dream.
Chapter two ended with a promisse D*I*R*T*Y* Diamond. Actually it’s a D*I*R*T*Y* Soundsystem.
And yes, there is a portuguese subject among this. D*I*R*T*Y* Soundsystem is a french project that loves compilations. They don’t release original albuns but instead they offer us beautiful, almost perfect, collections of listening pearls. Guillaume Sorge and Cédric "Pilooski" are the responsible for that and much more – the "much more" is the superb "Dark & Lovely" label. Most of you already heard about this french guys but another reason why they are here is a portuguese one. Let’s go back to UOVO again – Guillaume is the responsible for the CD compilation and in the last issue he included one track from Photonz. Photonz are Marco Rodrigues and Miguel Evaristo, two "kids" from Almada. And for those who don’t have to know where Almada is, the best way to locate it is by crossing the bridge similar to the Golden Gate that crosses river Tejo direction south. This particular area (south of Tejo = south of Lisbon) was considered by one of our ministers like being a desert - our last decade politicians aren’t known by it’s intelligence or wise sentences. The dryness of its heads is proven with this fresh "fruits", ready to be harvested by those who are always searching for new flavours. Photonz is only one among a series of projects that blossom around here – I mentioned them only because I understand their music and because I really feel proud when I listen their uovo track - and come to the conclusion that portuguese can be damn good. Portuguese women are also beautiful. Where the hell is Summer? Portuguese Summer must be the third choice for the island… yes everything comes around music.
P.S. – I’m not really shure about Photonz being from Almada. But almost shure that they come from the south margin – and it isn’t hip hop!!! ;^)
P.S. 2 – Marco visited Matéria Prima one of these days and bought one 12" from Contriva. He said it was a classic! And then I felt really old.
