GRANDMOTHER BOUGHT A MATTRESS THIS TIME (by João Cordeiro)
I have a childhood memory (a strong and important one) about a tape that existed at my parents' house. I used to play the tape alot, together with another bunch of tapes and vinyls that my father owned. Because he was born in the fifties, my father's music scene was set within the progressive rock/early electronics/symphonic rock era, as well as including some Brazilian music; soundtracks; and of course John Lennon, Ringo star and Yoko Ono.
Mixed amongst this, Macedonia were on the vinyls that some friends and family used to give me as birthday presents. I can remember various boxes of compilations with Neal Diamond, Abba, and some "Black" music that my Grandmother used to buy when these nice gentlemen knocked on her door on Sunday evenings to sell encyclopedias and records; now they sell "mattresses" !
This is how I started to listen to music. However, there was that tape, that mysterious tape I used to listen to, but one day it disappeared; it completely vanished. The truth is, at that age (I was between five and eight years old), my mind was full of other's major problems to solve-rather than to spend my time finding a lost tape. The more time that passed the less importance I gave to that old collection of vinyls and tapes.
Now I'm a music lover! I don't buy music; I don't collect it; I don't search for music; I don't even really listen to a lot of music: i just "do" music and I like to see people "doing" music too. This need to just "do" music is alike the dependency you might have on pills in order to sleep!-you don't need to know everything about those pills, or about all the different pills in the market-you just want your lovely pills and that's it!
Cãoceito made the cover for "The Rose Buttons" EP as well as the T-shirts for "Houdini Blues"- my two bands. Thank you Cãoceito!
And finally, one week ago, I found "The Lost Tape", and as a result, I bought the album: Duran Duran – Duran Duran, from 1981 (the year i was born), and now I can't stop listening to it!
